Principal and Chairman of PRWT Services, Inc.
Philadelphia-based PRWT Services Inc., has acquired a chemical manufacturing plant from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey-based Merck & Co. Inc. With the acquisition, the plant becomes the first minority-owned pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the US.
The company has also entered into a five-year supply chain agreement with Merck. The value of that deal is estimated at $100 to $200 million annually.
The acquisition also propels PRWT from being a $77 million business to being close to a $300 million business.
‘The acquisition of the Cherokee plant is consistent with PRWT’s vision of growing the company by expanding into new markets, services, and lines of business,’ said Willie F. Johnson, PRWT’s chairman and chief executive officer.
PRWT is a African-American owned business headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. Founded in 1988, PRWT provides business process outsourcing services to state and local governments across the US. In 2000, PRWT entered a new line of business by acquiring U.S. Facilities, Inc., a facilities management company headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. Since being acquired by PRWT, USF has won several multi- million-dollar contracts in the federal and municipal markets.
PRWT is one of America’s largest minority-owned businesses and has been ranked in the top 100 by Black Enterprise magazine for the past seven years.
